This ajwain and turmeric milk is my mother-in-law’s home remedy for cold, cough and sore throat. Few months back I gave this milk to Devansh when he wasn’t well and he didn’t seem to mind the taste. So I continued to give it to him even after he got better. Now he drinks one large mug of this golden milk daily before going to school. Western world is now waking up to the health benefits of golden or turmeric milk. Our ancestors have long known the health benefits of turmeric, and used it widely in Ayurvedic medicines and also as a spice in day-to-day cooking. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory and rich in anti-oxidants. Carom seeds (ajwain) are effective against cold and cough, and they help improve digestion. So now that Devansh is having this ajwain and turmeric milk on a daily basis, I am one happy mamma.
Getting Devansh to drink milk was not an easy task by any means though. After he turned two, I tried giving him milk with the readymade powders which when added to milk are supposed to make kids healthier and stronger. Devansh didn’t like them, which in retrospect was just perfect as he didn’t ingest all that sugar added in the powder. I kept trying at regular intervals and meanwhile I made sure he got his milk intake by adding it to his food like sheera and porridge. By the time he turned 3 I gave up trying to get him to drink milk altogether. Just made sure he had breakfast to which milk was added. When he was somewhere around four he himself started asking for milk. So I started giving him plain milk. Luckily he liked the taste of plain milk minus the sugar or any chocolate powder. And now he has transitioned from plain milk to this large mug of turmeric milk with ajwain daily.
How to make ajwain (carom seeds) and turmeric milk?

Ajwain and Turmeric Milk Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 th tsp carom seeds ajwain
- Large pinch of turmeric powder haldi
Instructions
- Add carom seeds to the milk and bring to a boil.
- Add turmeric powder, stir, and turn off heat. (Don’t add more than a large pinch of haldi as kids will find the taste overpowering.)

Notes
This milk should be taken as hot as drinkable in case of cold and cough. If you’re making the golden milk for grownups you can add more turmeric powder to make it more effective.
